In addition to these sailing clubs, there are often advertisements in the newspaper and sailing magazines where people are offering sailing gear for sale used.  These are great options since the consumer can go and check the gear before buying it, thus avoiding trouble in the long run with gear that was not properly checked and is worn out.

You can find sailing gear on various auction sites and e-commerce stores, but always be sure you know what you are getting before purchasing.  However, many of these online sites have some sort of guarantee or checks and balances system in place so that people are protected from fraudulent sellers.

Often the sailing gear that is needed is for children, since they outgrow their clothing and shoes so quickly when they are young.  These used marketplaces are the best places to go to when searching for children's gear. Often, sailing jackets, pants, boots, sandals and more can be found for a fraction of the cost new.
